Driver falls asleep at wheel, goes into lake

CELINA, Ohio – Authorities said a 76-year-old woman fell asleep behind the wheel in the middle of the day and drove into Grand Lake St. Marys, where she became stranded on the roof of her car and was rescued with help from an Indiana teenager.

The Lima News (http://bit.ly/VHmusf ) reported the Rockford woman fell asleep before missing a curve in the road and crossing a concrete rubble barrier into the lake. The car drifted a bit and then sank a few yards offshore. The woman wasn’t hurt and was able to exit the car.

A 15-year-old boy from nearby Portland, Indiana, witnessed the scene and swam out to give her a life jacket. The fire department eventually rescued her by boat.
