Barbara Walters isn’t forgotten – and isn’t gone.

Less than two months after stepping away from a regular role on television, Walters returned last week to conduct an interview with the father of a California man who fatally shot six people and injured 13 before killing himself. It was ABC’s most-watched prime-time program of the week and ranked in the top 10 among all networks, according to Nielsen data.

Meanwhile, she’s watching from offstage the turmoil at “The View,” the daytime program she started that is now down to Whoopi Goldberg as the only host set to come back next year.

Hewitt joins ‘Minds’

CBS says Jennifer Love Hewitt is joining the cast of “Criminal Minds” this fall.

She will play Kate Callahan, a seasoned undercover agent whose superior work at the FBI has earned her a place in the Behavioral Analysis Unit.

CBS says her “Criminal Minds” character will be introduced in the series’ 10th season premiere, set to air Oct. 1.

Jewel, hubby split

Singer Jewel and her husband are divorcing after a 16-year relationship.

The 40-year-old writes in a letter posted on her website that she and Ty Murray want their separation “to be nothing less loving than the way we came together.”

A representative for the singer confirmed the news Wednesday.

Jewel and Murray were married in 2008. They have a son named Kase.

In treatment

A publicist says Shia LaBeouf is being treated for alcoholism.

Melissa Kates said Tuesday that the 28-year-old actor has not checked into a rehab facility but is receiving voluntary treatment for alcohol addiction.

Kates said in a statement that LaBeouf’s recent actions – which include an arrest for disrupting a Broadway play – are symptoms of a larger health problem.

LaBeouf was charged with disorderly conduct, criminal trespass and harassment during a production of “Cabaret” last week.
