Off-duty police officer shoots self in leg

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Columbus police said an off-duty officer accidentally shot himself in the leg while in his own vehicle and then drove himself to a local hospital.

The department didn’t immediately name the Columbus officer who was injured early Wednesday morning. His wound wasn’t believed to be life-threatening.

It wasn’t clear how the shooting occurred. Police said the officer notified dispatchers about the injury.
