Missing kayaker’s body found after 2-day search

The Decatur Fire Department pulled the body of a 54-year-old kayaker out of the St. Marys River around 10:15 Monday morning.

Steven Seitz had been missing since his kayak struck a logjam in the river Friday evening. He was thrown into the water and did not resurface. He was not wearing a life jacket at the time, according to a press released from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

After two full days of fruitless searching by the DNR, state police and other emergency responders, including the use of sonar and divers, the DNR again went out Monday, assisted by the Adams County Sheriff’s Department and the Decatur Fire Department.
