Passenger airlifted after truck hits 2 trees

Two men were injured in an early morning crash in DeKalb County near Hamilton.

A 2011 Freightliner box truck driven by 51-year-old Michael W. Hephner of Angola was going east on County Road 00 N in the area of County Road 51 about 9:10 p.m.

The truck went into a ditch, hit two trees and then went back up and stopped on the roadway, according to a statement issued by Indiana State Police.

State police believe Hephner took his eyes off the road for just a moment before the truck left the road.

They said Hephner was taken to an area hospital. His passenger, 64-year-old Howard T. Beekman of Coldwater, Michigan, was flown to a Fort Wayne hospital. Their conditions were not immediately available.
