9-year-old hurts leg in dirt-bike accident

A 9-year-old Montpelier, Indiana, boy was seriously injured today in a dirt-bike accident on the Wells-Blackford county line, Indiana conservation officers said.

The boy, who was not identified, was riding a dirt bike at a friend's house in the 1500 block of West Wells County Road 1200 South, conservation officers said in a statement.

He was wearing a helmet with a faulty visor, the statement said. It said the visor came loose, falling in front of his eyes and obstructing his vision.

The bike struck a utility trailer, the statement said. It said the boy was taken to Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie and will require surgery, but the injury is not life-threatening.
