Downtown Fort Wayne streets to close for fireworks

FORT WAYNE – Because the city’s July 4 fireworks have moved downtown to One Summit Square, there will be a few street closures on Friday:

4 to 11 p.m.:

  • Calhoun Street from Jefferson Boulevard to Berry Street.
  • Wayne Street from Harrison to Clinton streets.
10:15 to 10:45 p.m.:

  • Washington Boulevard from Clinton to Harrison streets.
The Fort Wayne TinCaps will host a baseball game that evening, and the city said Tuesday that the fireworks planned for Parkview Field will be part of the fireworks being released from One Summit Square. Those with tickets to the game can watch from their seats at the ballpark.

The fireworks are scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. If the game is not finished by 10 p.m., the fireworks will begin as soon as the game ends.

This year’s Fourth of July Fireworks financial partners are the TinCaps, Sweetwater Sound, Parkview Health, Lincoln Financial Group, Fort Wayne Metals, Wells Fargo and Midwest Pipe & Steel. The city is partnering with Indiana Michigan Power for use of the One Summit Square building.

The move downtown was done with cooperation from Three Rivers Festival officials, the city said, who allowed the Fourth of July fireworks display even though it is close to the Three Rivers Festival fireworks show in mid-July.
