Search continues for tossed kayaker

Authorities were searching Saturday for a Decatur man missing since Friday night when his kayak overturned.

Steven Seitz, 54, and another man were navigating the St. Marys river near Decatur when Seitz’s kayak hit a logjam and overturned, according to Indiana Conservation Officers.

Seitz was thrown into the water and did not resurface, authorities said.

Conservation officers said he was not wearing a life jacket at the time. Shortly before 8:30 p.m. the other man Seitz was with phoned 911 and reported the disappearance.

After unsuccessful efforts to find Seitz on Friday, the search began again Saturday morning, involving sonar and divers.

Officials suspended the search early Saturday evening.
