Safety first

With each July Fourth, inevitably come fireworks-related injuries. Local emergency responders want to reduce the chances of that happening with some safety tips.

Thirty-six percent of fireworks-related injuries involve children, according to Indiana Homeland Security. Children should not be allowed to play with or light fireworks.

Fireworks should be used only in an open area, and only one firework should be lit at a time.

Anyone using fireworks should be aware of wind conditions and never aim or throw fireworks at another person.

Safety glasses are also recommended for anyone lighting fireworks.
