Participants in the Weighty Matters: Teen edition program can count Week 2 as a success.
The Fit Crew has been busy working out on their own and putting into practice tips learned from their session with the dietitian a week earlier.
As of a June 20 weigh-in, the teens lost a combined 17 pounds, bringing the total lost to 33 pounds.
The Fit Crew talks about their progress at www.journalgazette.net/fitcrew. Here are their own words:
How the week went: We had family come in from out of town, and we took them around Fort Wayne. I wasn’t prepared to go out to lunch and dinner that day. I felt kind of low until on Tuesday when I was able to get in the gym and work out hard. Now I feel even better because of the result that I got from my weigh-in. I can definitely say that I’m pretty proud of myself.
How the week went: I lost two more pounds! I am just so thankful to be (in a new decade), and look forward to lowering my weight even more!
Blog excerpt: I thought that I would share a wonderful recipe that my sister and I have tried twice now. It’s a healthy alternative to the unhealthy, yet mouthwatering breakfast favorite we call pancakes! They do take a little longer to prepare and cook, but they are satisfying, delicious, and healthy! As long as you don’t drown them in syrup.
How the week went: This week, I have been to a TRX class, and I had a full orientation with all of the machines. So far, I have enjoyed the strength machines and the ARC trainer. I really like being able to work out and attend classes with my family. I really have to stop my awful habit of snacking all the time, but I think that I can do it.
How the week went: This week went great – I’ve already lost some weight. I’ve been watching what I’m eating a lot more. I feel better knowing that I’m healthier.
How the week went: This week has been pretty challenging. We went on vacation, and when you’re going out to eat every day and cooking marshmallows around a fire, it can be hard to control your diet. On the bright side, it wasn’t very hard to stay active there because there was no TV or internet but plenty of things to do – like swimming, fishing, hiking and a hot tub (which I admit isn’t very active, but it was the best part).
Blog excerpt: A tip I learned this week is that snacking is OK, it just depends what you’re snacking on, according to my fitness instructor Jason. His advice is to try to snack on celery with a little peanut butter or nuts. Don’t go straight for the Twinkies and Ho Hos when there are other tasty, but nutritious snacks.
Blog excerpt: On vacation I brought along healthy snacks to eat while we were traveling, and I tried to choose healthier choices at dinner. We got a lot of walking in while we were at the parks, and spent most of the day there. I’m just happy to be back home and back on track!
How the week went: The program is going well. I did an hour-and-a-half leg workout. I used the elliptical for 15 minutes, biked for 30 minutes, relaxed for 10 minutes and two leg weights, three sets each. I must say I’m very proud of myself and I’m eating healthier as well. I’m trying new recipes, and my mom is my biggest support system by far.
