Sting nets arrest, drugs mailed from California

Black tar heroin, crystal meth and methadone were among the drugs police found Wednesday night when they arrested a man they said had been receiving drugs through the mail from California.

Officers made undercover buys of heroin from a home in Syracuse and on Wednesday found Dana Likens, 26, of Auburn in the home, along with multiple bags of heroin, methamphetamine and methadone, Warsaw police said.

He told police he bought the heroin and meth from Jaime Alvarado, 39, of San Diego and formerly of Milford, who would ship them in the mail.

Police learned Alvarado was back in Indiana this week and stopped and searched his car on Indiana 15 on the south edge of Warsaw.

Inside the car, police said they found digital scales, paraphernalia, and in a mesh pouch attached to Alvarado’s underwear they found bags of heroin and crystal meth.

Alvarado would not say anything about his supplier or anyone else involved other than he had been bringing heroin into the United States from Mexico by hiding it in his rectum, police said.

Alvarado was being held in lieu of $250,000 bail on charges of dealing meth and dealing a narcotic drug. He was also charged with multiple counts of conspiracy to commit dealing and possession of a narcotic drug, police said.

Likens was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail and was charged with dealing methamphetamine, dealing a narcotic drug and possession of a narcotic drug.

Police said the heroin and meth they found has a street value of about $15,000.
