Adolfo Reina’s third inning go-ahead two-run homer led the TinCaps in a 4-2 win over West Michigan at Comstock Park, Michigan, on Sunday afternoon to split a four-game series to open the second half.
Fort Wayne (32-41) opened scoring in on a Jake Bauers RBI single to knock in Ronnie Richardson.
The Whitecaps (43-31) responded in the second with runs from Dominic Ficociello and Jeff Holm to take a 2-1 lead.
Reina’s homer in the third, his second of the season, brought in Bauers to give the TinCaps the lead for good at 3-2.
In the fifth, Bauers’ sacrifice fly brought in Fernando Perez to extend the Fort Wayne lead to 4-2.
Bauers finished 2 for 2 and raised his average to .364.
Payton Baskette (3-3) pitched a career-high six innings and gave up two runs on seven hits. He struck out four.
Reliever Eric Yardley pitched perfect seventh and eighth innings, and Nick Mutz pitched a perfect ninth to earn his eighth save.
The TinCaps have today off and open a three-game series with Dayton at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday at Parkview Field.
