Shots fired; man pronounced dead in vacant lot

Paramedics have pronounced a man dead at the scene after Fort Wayne police responded about 7 p.m. to calls about shots being fired in the 2500 block of Weisser Park Avenue.

Police said they found a man down in a vacant lot between two houses on the east side of the avenue. Multiple calls had been made to 911 about shots being fired.

No one was in custody as of 8:15 p.m., but police were canvassing the area. They asked anyone with information about the shooting to contact Crime Stoppers at 436-STOP.

If the man’s death is declared a homicide, it would be the seventh in Allen County this year. There were 45 homicides in the county last year.

The death remains under investigation by city police, the Allen County coroner's office and the county prosecutor's office.
