We have finished the second week of the Weighty Matters: Teen Edition program. The Fit Crew has been working out at the YMCA and met with Lutheran Hospital dietitian Alissa Edsall to talk about healthier ways of eating.
For the first week, the Fit Crew lost a combined weight of 16 pounds.

How the week went: My first week was exciting with being able to try new exercises because of my new YMCA membership. When transportation to the YMCA became an issue, I was able to take my dog on walks. Weighing in made me nervous but I am super proud of myself for the result that I got.
How the week went: For the first weigh-in after a week of starting the program, I was very nervous to hop onto the scale. I was expecting to have lost maybe two or three pounds, but I wasn’t expecting to lose five! My confidence has definitely been raised, and I can’t wait to lose more!
Blog excerpt: On Wednesday, my youth group took part in our annual trip to Deep River Water Park. Now on normal occasions, when we would go to the water park, it was made very simple to stuff your face with bags of chips, cookies, and candy. All this was available this year, but I made it through without a single snack or meal that didn’t come from my own cooler.
How the week went: I also had to choose between going for a walk or sitting and watching a show, you always want to choose that show, but now, I have to work on the walk.
Blog excerpt: This week, I made one of the recipes (chicken with cider sauce) we got from the dietitian at Lutheran Hospital. The dietitian was very helpful, she answered any questions we had.
How the week went: This was the first week of my weight training, and I feel pretty good about it. I dropped 3 pounds, and even though that doesn’t sound like much it’s the first time I have ever lost weight so I consider it a mini victory. I have had a lot of encouragement from my parents and from Jason, my personal trainer, they have done their best with giving me tips on eating habits and encouraging me to work out at the Y. I feel that if I stay on this road I could really get to where I want to be weight wise.
Blog excerpt: A tip I have learned this week is to just stay busy. If you’re just sitting around, you will eventually be led to food, so try and find something to do instead of watching TV.
How the week went: Everything is going well so far. (I’m) doing a lot of walking and things like that.
