INDIANAPOLIS – Authorities are investigating a fire in a patrol car while it was parked in an Indianapolis police officer’s driveway, with investigators saying they believe it was deliberately set.
Indianapolis Fire Department Capt. Rita Reith said firefighters responded to the call about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday and extinguished the fire within five minutes.
Reith said the officer didn’t know the car was burning until firefighters knocked on the home’s door. No one was injured, but the police car was extensively damaged.
The police department estimates it would cost about $25,000 to replace the car.
Authorities haven’t released the name or address of the officer but said the officer lives on the city’s north side.
