Severe thunderstorms hit region

More than 2,500 customers are without power since a storm whipped through northeast Indiana on Wednesday afternoon.

As of 5:50 p.m., I&M was reporting that more than 680 customers in Allen County and 1,900 in DeKalb County were without power.

The National Weather Service storm prediction center in Norman, Oklahoma, issued a severe thunderstorm watch for all counties in northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio until 9 p.m. Wednesday.

A storm front is sweeping southeast from Chicago, bringing the threat of strong winds and large hail.

Heavy rain and localized flooding are possible, the weather service in northern Indiana said, adding that thunderstorms are possible Thursday through Monday.
