TinCaps' Eastern Division falls in All-Star game

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. – TinCaps relievers Tyron Guerrero and Nick Mutz each pitched a scoreless inning for the Eastern Division in its 7-0 loss to the Western Division in the Midwest League All-Star Game on Tuesday at Fifth Third Ballpark.

TinCaps center fielder Mallex Smith played the full game. He batted ninth and went 0 for 3. Smith grounded to second base in the bottom of the third inning, flew to right leading off the sixth and hit into a fielder’s choice to third with two men on base in the eighth.

Mutz worked a 1-2-3 eighth, striking out one, and Guerrero was perfect in the ninth.

The Eastern Division was hitless until South Bend’s Marty Herum delivered a one-out single in the eighth.

Smith had a quiet night in center. His only putout came on a routine fly ball in the first.
