Young brothers drown in pond

HOBART, Ind. – The Lake County Coroner’s Office reports that two young brothers drowned in a pond in northwest Indiana.

A statement from Coroner Merrilee Frey said 8-year-old Terrion Smith and 9-year-old Donel Smith were pronounced dead at St. Mary Medical Center on Saturday night after being pulled from the pond in their hometown of Hobart.

Terrion was pronounced dead at 8:49 p.m. Central time and Donel was pronounced dead 14 minutes later.

The drownings are being investigated.
