PUTNAMVILLE, Ind. – A central Indiana prison is on lockdown following the fatal stabbing of an inmate.
The Indiana Department of Correction said 34-year-old Darwin Elmore was stabbed shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday. Medics were called, and Elmore died about 11:30 p.m.
Prison officials and Indiana State Police are investigating Elmore’s death. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
The suspect is being held in isolation. Officials said his name won’t be released unless he is formally charged by the Putnam County prosecutor’s office.
Elmore was serving two consecutive sentences for dealing in cocaine in Marion County.
