Police investigate a shooting at 4219 Chippendale Court, where a man was found dead.

Man found shot to death

The third shooting in as many days in Fort Wayne left one man dead Wednesday evening.

Police were called shortly after 9.p.m. to a home in a far southeast subdivision after neighbors reported hearing gunshots, according to Officer Jason Anthony, spokesman for the Fort Wayne Police Department.

He said the first officers who arrived at the house at 4219.Chippendale Court found an adult male inside with multiple gunshot wounds.

The man died at the scene, Anthony said. His death is being investigated as a homicide, which would be Allen County’s sixth this year.

Nearby residents told police they saw a white car leave shortly after they heard gunshots. A more detailed description of the car was not available.

Anthony said there was another man in the home with the victim and although he left the scene, he later returned. Police will interview him and other nearby residents who saw the white car or anyone in it, Anthony said.

The home where the shooting occurred is south of Paulding Road between Wayne Trace Boulevard and Hessen Cassel Road. Southwick Elementary School and Paul Harding Junior High School are just east of the home.

Anthony said it was too early to determine a motive or if the shooting was connected to the two others earlier this week.

The first shooting, which occurred Monday, resulted in three teenage boys found with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds near Weisser Park.

Tuesday night, an 18-year-old man was wounded when a bullet fired into his house just east of downtown grazed the back of his head.

He was taken to a local hospital in serious condition.
