Molester agrees to 20 years in plea

– Thirty-year old Antoine J. Island admitted Tuesday to sexually assaulting a young girl last March.

According to the terms of the plea agreement reached with prosecutors, Island will be sentenced to 35 years in prison, with 15 years of that sentence suspended and 20 years to be served behind bars. Island must also serve five years on probation, according to court documents.

Island’s behavior came to the attention of police when the girl, who was under the age of 14, was at a child advocacy center being treated as an “acute rape victim,” according to court documents.

The girl told police she was staying with someone who is married to Island. She said he came up behind her and fondled her breasts. Later in the evening, she and her sister were asleep on the living room floor and he removed her clothing and had anal sex with her.

The victim said she tried to wake her sister while he was assaulting her but was unable to do so, according to court documents.

A forensic examination and DNA test revealed Island’s DNA was present on the girl, according to court documents.

In exchange for his guilty plea to a count of child molesting, an additional charge of child molesting will be dismissed at sentencing next month.
