Metaldyne to invest $8 million at Bluffton plant

Metaldyne M&A Bluffton, LLC, plans to invest more than $8 million in equipment and add jobs as part of an expansion that will benefit from a tax abatement.

Metaldyne makes transmission components for the automotive industry.

Wells County Economic Development said Wednesday that 13 jobs will be added to the 292 employees already at Metaldyne’s Bluffton plant, which is part of Metaldyne’s Drivetrain Products group. Average wage for the new employees will be more than $17 per hour.

The company received an abatement Tuesday from the Bluffton City Council.

Daun Spurgeon, engineering and maintenance director for the Bluffton plant, attended Tuesday’s council meeting along with Diane Johnson of Wells County Economic Development to request the $420,000, 10-year abatement. Along with purchasing new equipment, the company expects to expand its product line.
