Indiana conservation officers drag the Big Blue River below the dam in Edinburgh on Friday.

Teen’s body recovered below dam

EDINBURGH, Ind. – A diver has recovered the body of a 17-year-old boy from the churning waters at the base of a central Indiana dam.

Indiana Conservation Officer Lt. Bill Browne said the body of 17-year-old Jason Moran was recovered Sunday morning at the base of the dam in Edinburgh, about 30 miles south of Indianapolis. Browne said Moran’s body was found near where he was last seen Friday.

Moran was part of a group of five Franklin Community High School students swimming above the dam when a member of the group, 16-year-old Sarah McLevish, was swept over and became trapped in the waters below.

McLevish and 16-year-old Michael Chadbourne were pulled from the waters and remained in critical condition Sunday at an Indianapolis hospital.
