Eagles capture golf sectional

Columbia City bested the host team and won the Warsaw Sectional at Rozella Ford Golf Course with a 299 on Friday, led by Tyler Green’s 1-under 69.

The Eagles advanced to Thursday’s regional at Stonehenge Golf Club along with Warsaw, which shot a 308, and Culver Academy, which had a 310.

Columbia City got 75s from Spencer Klimek and Cameron Slavich, while Trent Murphy added an 80.

Warsaw was paced by Will Petro’s 73. Jonny Hollar had a 74, Brandon Eckert had a 78, and Ryan Cultice and Michael Jensen had 83s.

Wawasee finished fourth with a 315 and missed advancing by five strokes, though Jeffrey Moore’s 75 was good enough to move him on individually.

EAST NOBLE: At Noble Hawk, Leo finished with a four-stroke lead to take the sectional title 304-308 over the hosts.

The Lions advance to the Warsaw Regional along with East Noble and Carroll.

The Lions were led by Nate Morris’ 72. Kent Kimura and Chandler Reinking each shot 77, Ashby Drummond 78 and Adam Freeby 81.

East Noble’s Michael Sharp took the top spot individually with a 69. Evan Hart shot 78, Andrew Kretler 80, Jesse Kitchen 81 and Aaron Beard 88.

Carroll finished third with 317 led by Garrett Leeper’s 75.

Angola’s Eric Ruff, Churubusco’s Beau Barkley and Northrop’s Michael Ankenbruck advanced without a team.

NORWELL: At Timber Ridge, Oak Hill won the sectional title with a 321. Marion (333) and Bellmont (337) rounded out the top three, advancing to Thursday’s Muncie Central Regional at The Players Club.

Bellmont was led by Sterling Price’s 79.

South Adams’ Cal Clouser won a playoff hole for second place over Jay County’s Evan Mathias and advanced to regionals individually as South Adams finished sixth (360).


JUNIOR ALL-STARS: At Lexington, Kentucky, the Indiana boys defeated Kentucky 127-104. East Chicago’s Hyron Edwards led Indiana with 20 points and six rebounds.

The Indiana girls defeated Kentucky 98-67. Canterbury’s Darby Maggard scored 13, and Homestead’s Josie Fisher scored 11, going 2 for 2 on 3-pointers.
