What appears to be a gunbattle across the 3400 block of Euclid Avenue injured a 7-year-old girl early Sunday while she lay sleeping in her bed.
According to police reports, bullet holes were found in two homes, directly across from each other, as well as spent shell casings on the houses' respective porches. A vehicle in front of one of the homes was also struck by bullets.
But the most serious damage came inside one of the houses – a small one-story blue home with bullet holes in the west-facing front of the house, on the other side of the wall where the girl lay in her bed, according to court documents.
Officers responded to the house about 3:50 a.m. Sunday after a report of a 7-year-old shot. When they arrived at the house, authorities found the girl on the couch, a bullet hole going through her foot and another on her leg near her knee. She was taken to the hospital in fair condition.
On the porch of that house, and the ground near the porch, officers found spent .25-caliber shell casings. Across the street, on the porch of that home, officers found spent 9 mm shell casings, according to the report.
The house across the street from where the girl was injured also had bullet holes in its front, and a vehicle parked in the street was also damaged by gunfire, the report said.
In one of the 911 calls that came into the dispatch center, the caller said the girl was injured by people firing from across the street, according to the report.
