Young girl in bed struck by bullets

FORT WAYNE – A small child sleeping in a bunk bed was struck by bullets early Sunday.

Fort Wayne police officers were called to the 3400 block of Euclid Avenue in a neighborhood southeast of downtown shortly before 4 a.m.

According to the officers’ reports, four children were in the house at the time of the shooting. The one who was struck was sleeping in the top bunk in a front bedroom, witnesses told police.

There was what appeared to be a gunshot wound in the bottom of her foot and another near her knee, the officers’ reports said. The reports indicated her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

She was taken to a local hospital and the other girls were released to relatives, the reports said.

Officers recovered several shell casings. A car in front of the house had been struck at least three times by bullets, the reports said.

The ages of the children involved were not released by police.
