Baseball sectionals: Spartans down Vikings to win 2nd straight title

Homestead captured the Class 4A Huntington sectional title with a 4-3 win over host Huntington North. The Spartans have won back-to-back sectional titles and 12 sectional titles in program history.

“We played two outstanding games,” said Homestead coach Steve Sotir, whose team defeated Jay County 7-6 in a semifinal game. “(McLean) Trieglaff was outstanding on the mound, mixing it up, throwing strikes and putting the ball in play.”

DJ Moore went 3 for 3, scored once and had an RBI for the Spartans, and McLean Trieglaff struck out nine in the title game.

Homestead will face the winner of Monday’s Noblesville sectional in the Lafeyette-Jefferson regional on Saturday.

Huntington North defeated Wayne 5-4 in one of the semifinal games. Blake Gray led the Vikings going 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Drew Lundsford went 2 for 3 and scored twice to lead Homestead against Jay County.

Baseball sectionals

BELLMONT: Norwell came away with a 6-4 win over Heritage, despite being out hit 11-6. Reggie Hayes went 2 for 3 for Norwell, which will play Northfield in the title game Monday. Columbia City fell 4-3 to Northfield in the other semifinal.

GARRETT: Bishop Dwenger defeated the hosts 11-6 and Concordia beat Bishop Luers 8-3. The Saints face the Cadets in the championship game 6 p.m. Monday.

ELKHART MEMORIAL: Justin Oberlin went 2 for 3 and had one RBI as Warsaw defeated Northridge 7-3 to reach the title game. Concord defeated Elkhart Memorial 7-2 in game one to reach the final. The championship game is 6 p.m. Monday.

WHITKO: Wawasee had six errors in an 8-5 semifinal to Fairfield. Drew Anderson led the Warriors going 2 for 4 and scoring twice.

ADAMS CENTRAL: Canterbury won their second ever sectional title by defeating Woodlan 1-0.

Softball sectionals

NORWELL: The host Knights defeated Columbia City 12-0 to take the title. Tiffany Williams got the win for Norwell, and Kaycee Strunk, Madiston Stinson and Alissa Hanni each had a double.
