Kroger Zoo Day raises $66,000
Kroger and its customers have donated more than $66,000 to the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo from the Zoo Day fundraising event May 14, the company announced Friday.
Kroger donated $50,000 from sales on May 14 to the zoo, and customers at 15 area stores donated $16,540, Kroger said in a statement.
Bugara the tiger won a three-way fundraising election with Xiao the red panda and Hugh the penguin, the statement said. Bugara received 6,061 $1 votes from customers, against 5,946 for Xiao and 4,536 for Hugh.
Stores at Village at Coventry, on East Dupont Road and in Georgetown Square raised the most money, but the company did not provide details. Since 1993, more than $1.5 million has been raised for the zoo at annual Zoo Day events at Kroger and Scott’s stores.
Foster Park pavilion reopens
Foster Park Pavilion No. 2, which was damaged when a tree fell on it last month, has been repaired and the safety fence removed as of Friday evening and is accessible to the public. To reserve the pavilion, for a business or family event, call the 260-427-6000.
Traffic stoppages set for Lima Road
Traffic will be intermittently stopped along U.S. 27/Lima Road between Indiana 930/Coliseum Boulevard and Dalgren Avenue next week. The stoppages will last no more than 20 minutes and will be during daytime hours. Work is expected to last all week, weather permitting.
The work is part of the U.S. 27/Lima Road asphalt resurface project, and includes work on signal heads, traffic markings, curb, gutter and storm sewer.
All work is anticipated to be completed by early September of this year.
