Moped rider critically hurt after losing control

A man suffered critical injuries Thursday afternoon when he crashed his moped in southeast Fort Wayne.

The 22-year-old man, whose name was not released, was headed north in the 4900 block of Avondale Drive when he lost control of the moped and laid it down on the street, said Officer Michael Joyner, a Fort Wayne Police Department spokesman.

He said the driver was not wearing a helmet and suffered serious injuries; he was downgraded to critical but stable condition after he arrived at the hospital.

No other vehicles were involved with the crash, which occurred between Decatur Road and Pettit Avenue, Joyner said.

He said there were no witnesses to the crash.
