Public meeting June 11 on Auburn utility hike

The Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor is inviting electricity customers in Auburn to attend a field hearing June 11 to discuss a rate-increase request by the city.

The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission's field hearing will be at 6 p.m. in Auburn City Council chambers, 210 E. Ninth St. An informational session is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

The city is seeking a rate increase that would raise a typical bill for a customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours a month from $69.58 to $83.60.

The city says higher operating and maintenance costs are behind the rate request.

Written comments may be sent to the OUCC by July 7.
