Postal food drive nets 361,000 pounds

Area letter carriers, schools and residents contributed 361,000 pounds of food to the Associated Churches Neighborhood Food Network in the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive this year, officials said Wednesday.

Each year on the second Saturday in May, letter carriers nationwide collect nonperishable food donations from residents, benefiting Associated Churches Neighborhood Food Network and helping feed area residents, officials said.

While the national average is down, the regional average is up nearly 17 percent from last year, officials said.
