2 dead in fiery Butler Road crash

Two people were killed in a fiery crash early Tuesday in northwest Fort Wayne.

When police and first responders arrived about 3:30 a.m. to the crash at Butler Road and Butler Court, they found a car fully engulfed in flames, according to the Fort Wayne Police Department.

Firefighters quickly put out the flames, but it was too late to save either person.

Investigators found one victim on the ground near the car and another still inside, according to police.

Police said the car was traveling northeast when it left the road and struck a tree, upon which the car caught fire.

Police believe speed was a possible factor in the cause of the crash, which remains under investigation.
