DeKalb County farm bought for preserve

ACRES Land Trust is acquiring a 93-acre nature preserve in DeKalb County.

The preserve, formerly the James Covell farm and the Glen T. Rieke family homestead, is the county's first nature preserve to be open to the public, according to a statement released by the land trust.

The James P. Covell Nature Preserve will protect a portion of Cedar Creek, one of three designated scenic rivers in Indiana.

The Bicentennial Nature Trust and Indiana Heritage Trust provided part of the funding for the land, according to the statement.
