Arrest for alleged intoxicated boating

A Syracuse man was arrested Monday evening on suspicion of driving a boat while intoxicated after a failed attempt to get his boat on a trailer ended with the boat underwater.

Indiana Conservation Officers said they got a call about 6 p.m. from the Syracuse Police Department about a sunken boat at the public access site on Syracuse Lake.

Reports to conservation officers and police indicated a 33-year-old man was trying to get his boat on a trailer but instead the boat ended up sinking, according to a news release.

The man was jailed on a charge of boating while intoxicated, a misdemeanor unless the person has a prior conviction of the same offense. The Journal Gazette does not typically name those charged only with misdemeanors.
