The blacksmith building at Historic Fort Wayne sustained heavy fire damage.

Fire hits Old Fort building

A building at Historic Fort Wayne was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived this morning.

The building was saved, but many of the tools and equipment inside the former blacksmith building were destroyed, according to a statement issued by the Fort Wayne Fire Department.

It said that the fire at 1201 Spy Run Ave. was reported at 5:59 a.m.

The damage was heavy and the cause remains under investigation.
