Alum gifts mementos to college

Andre 3000

Barbara Walters is giving a trove of tapes, papers and photos from her five decades in journalism to Sarah Lawrence College, her alma mater.

Walters made the announcement in a surprise appearance at the suburban New York college’s commencement Friday.

College President Karen Lawrence says in a statement that the school is thrilled by the gift. Walters retired from daily television this month. Her final episode of “The View” aired May 16.

Suit names Allman

An attorney for Gregg Allman says the singer’s inclusion in a wrongful death lawsuit in Georgia is “unfortunate, unwarranted and without merit.”

Attorney David Long-Daniels issued a statement Friday, two days after Allman was sued by the parents of a film worker killed Feb. 20 when a train smashed into a crew making a movie about the singer’s life. Allman was an executive producer on the “Midnight Rider” project.

Long-Daniels says Allman had previously expressed his condolences to Sarah Jones’ family and remained in touch with them as recently as last week.

Actress takes ill

An organizer of a screening of “The Miracle Worker” in Omaha says one of the movie’s stars – Oscar-winning actress Patty Duke – left the event because of stomach pain.

The Omaha World-Herald reported that the 67-year-old Duke was taken by a private vehicle Friday evening to the Nebraska Medical Center after complaining of stomach pain.

Organizer Bruce Crawford says Duke’s medical condition was not serious.
