Ohio Gov. Kasich orders flags lowered for holiday

– Flags at public buildings and grounds throughout Ohio are flying at half-staff to honor those who have died serving the country.

Gov. John Kasich issued a resolution ordering the flags lowered from sunrise until noon Monday in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.

The resolution encourages all Ohioans to reflect on the significance of the day by remembering the sacrifices of the men and women who have served the nation. It also urges Ohioans to show gratitude to all those who wear the uniform.

Many residents were expected to get away for the long holiday weekend.

According to the AAA Ohio Auto Club, about 1.34 million Ohioans were expected travel at least 50 miles from home over the weekend – the most since before the onset of the recession.
