Angola crushes Fremont in finals

The Angola girls tennis team won the sectional championship on its home court 4-1 over rival Fremont on Friday.

The Hornets got a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 1 singles by Hannah Cowen over Anna Thompson, and at No. 3 singles Kendall Floto defeated Jordan Lovette 7-5, 6-3.

Both Angola doubles teams – Tori Yagodinski and Paige Emke, plus Abby and Becca Buchs – got victories and dropped a total of six games.

Fremont’s lone victory came at No. 2 singles, where Kaileigh Folland defeated Anna Fuller 7-5, 6-1.

WARSAW 4, COLUMBIA CITY 1: In Warsaw, the Tigers took the sectional crown, led by Jacqueline Sasso’s 6-0, 6-0 victory over Rachel Flauding at No. 1 singles.

The closest match came at No. 2 doubles, where Abbi Baum and Athena Schlitt beat Cassie Bosselman and Bayley Smith 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5).

HUNTINGTON NORTH 3, ADAMS CENTRAL 2: In Ossian, Kylie Frederick won at No. 1 singles for the Vikings, 6-1, 6-1, over Whitney Peterson at the Norwell Sectional


CARROLL 12, CONCORDIA 0: At Carroll, Trevor Snyder pitched a two-hitter, striking out five and walking two.

Teammate Grant Inman had a home run, as part of his 1-for-3 day with two runs and two RBI. Luke Brunner was 3 for 3 with two runs, three RBI and a stolen base. Jacob Hansen was 3 for 3 with two runs.

Concordia’s James Mallers and Tyler Harmon had the two hits.


SNIDER 168, NORTH SIDE 198: Zach Parks’ 39 at Lakeside led the Panthers, who got a 41 from Cameron Dellinger and a 42 from Drew Gordon. North Side’s Noah Wester had a 45.


HOMESTEAD 10, WOODLAN 4: At Homestead, the Spartans got three hits apiece from Alexis Vargo and Kelly Rosenbaum.

Jessica Schneider had three RBI.
