Father accused of making meth with child present

Searching for a meth lab at a North Webster apartment Tuesday morning, police officers reported encountering a “chemical haze” and finding a 9-year-old child.

About 7 a.m. Warsaw narcotics officers arrested Steven Lynn Iden II, 34, after searching his apartment in the 500 block of South Main Street, according to a statement issued by the Warsaw Police Department.

It said undercover officers had bought meth from the man earlier and that police believed he was making meth while the child was at home.

Officers from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police and Warsaw police went upstairs this morning and immediately detected the strong odor of meth and could see the haze, the statement said.

It said that Iden was trying to get rid of meth-making items as officers came inside.

The child was taken to the Kosciusko Community Hospital to be checked out and was taken into protective custody by Child Protective Services.

The state police and Warsaw police clandestine lab teams were called in to deal with the hazardous chemicals.

Iden was charged with dealing/delivering/manufacturing methamphetamine, and the police said additional charges are possible. His bond was set at $10,000 surety.
