18 detained in probe of Turkish mine disaster

ISTANBUL – A Turkish news report says 18 people, including company executives, have been detained as part of an investigation into the Turkish mining disaster that killed 301 people.

Turkey’s Dogan news agency said prosecutors are questioning five of those detained.

Government and mining officials have insisted that the disaster was not caused by negligence and the mine was inspected regularly.
