High school roundup: Senior leads Flying Jets past Lions on diamond

Madi Schwartz homered and drove in three runs to lead Adams Central past Leo 5-3 on Friday in a matchup of two of the more successful softball teams in the ACAC.

The host Flying Jets got a complete-game victory from senior Abby Busse, who allowed three runs on eight hits.

Busse was 1 for 3 with a stolen base while batting second.

Kaitlyn Johnson tripled, scored and drove in a run, and Whitney Baller added an RBI for Adams Central.

Lindsey Bowers allowed five runs and seven hits in her six innings for the Lions.

HERITAGE 15, BLUFFTON 2: The visiting Patriots improved to 15-8, and 4-2 in ACAC play, behind junior Kamio Gilreath. She doubled and struck out seven in five innings pitched.

HOMESTEAD 15, NORWELL 6: Alexis Vargo homered twice, a grand slam and a three-run shot, and finished with three hits and eight RBI for the host Spartans.

Vargo (10-2) pitched 5 1/3 innings to help make Homestead 15-6 and 6-1 in the NHC.


ADAMS CENTRAL 4, LEO 1: Luke Liter threw a complete game and drove in a run as visiting Leo suffered its first ACAC loss.

HUNTINGTON NORTH 2, LOGANSPORT 0: Kory Goodrich struck out seven in his three-hitter for the host Vikings, who improved to 5-1 in the NCC and 16-4 overall. Mitch Hughes and Walker Spahr drove in back-to-back runs in the first inning.

WAYNE 4, BISHOP LEURS 1: Tristan Byall struck out six and walked none in a complete-game victory at Parkview Field. Wayne scored three times in the sixth to break a 1-run tie.
