Former Luers standout called up by Rays

Former Bishop Luers standout Kevin Kiermaier is back in the Major League.

The outfielder was called up by the Tampa Bay Rays after Friday night’s 3-0 victory over the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim, California.

Keirmaier, who is with the Rays today as they play the Angeles at 9:05 p.m., took the place of center fielder Desmond Jennings, who was placed on the bereavement list because of a death in his family. Jennings will be away from the team until Tuesday, according to the Rays’ website.

Kiermaier, who has played one game in the big leagues, was recalled from Triple-A Durham. He was drafted by the Rays in the 31st round of the 2010 draft.
