Free fishing day set for Lakeside Park

Fort Wayne residents will have a chance to haul in catfish thanks to the DNR Go FishIN program.

The DNR will stock 300 channel catfish today in the large pond south of Lake Avenue at Lakeside Park for a free fishing event Saturday.

The DNR had previously released 300 catfish at Lakeside in April.

The DNR and Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department will offer a “Family Learn to Fish” workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Families will learn fish biology, basic fishing skills and will practice fishing as they try to catch sunfish and catfish.

Children must by 6 or older to participate. Fishing equipment and bait will be provided, and those wanting to participate must pre-register by calling 317-234-8440 or emailing

A fishing license will not be required for the free fishing day.
