Tent adoption event has 50-pet goal

FORT WAYNE – Four northern Indiana pet shelters are coming together this weekend for what is being called a Mega Adoption event.

Allen County SPCA, the Steuben County Humane Society, Perfect Paws Pet Rescue and Blackford County Humane Society will have dogs and cats under a big tent in the parking lot of PetSmart at 10260 Maysville Road from noon until 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The event is made possible by a grant from PetSmart Charities, according to a statement issued Wednesday by the Allen County SPCA.

The shelters have set a combined goal of 50 adoptions.

The SPCA in Fort Wayne will offer same-day adoptions for pre-approved applications, the statement said.

Those who are not currently pre-approved can meet with available animals and, through a streamlined process, may still be approved on-site. To be considered, bring verification of vaccinations for all current pets, and renters should bring copies of leases that show they allow pets.

All animals will be adopted on a first-come basis.

Local food trucks will also be in the parking lot.

The Allen County SPCA shelter at 4914 S. Hanna St. will be closed this weekend.
