Orland man dies after cycle hits SUV

An Orland man died Saturday night when his Harley-Davidson motorcycle hit a compact SUV east of Orland, according to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department.

About 9:50 p.m. officials received a 911 call about the crash at Indiana 120 and Steuben County Road 650 West.

Kenny Penick, 66, was riding the 2013 Harley west on Indiana 120 when Donald Stanfield, 78, of Defiance, Ohio, pulled out to make a left-hand turn after stopping, the department said in a statement issued Sunday.

It said the motorcycle struck the 2014 Chevrolet Equinox and Penick was pronounced dead at the scene by Steuben County Deputy Coroner Rodney Snyder.

The sheriff’s department said Penick was not wearing a helmet. Stanfield and a passenger were treated and released from an area hospital.
