Worker critical after being pinned in pond

– A Fort Wayne man working as a landscaper was in critical condition Friday night after being pinned underwater at a pond on Fort Wayne’s southwest side that afternoon.

Robert Houser Jr., 26, had been riding atop a lawnmower in the Westchester Lakes subdivision – west of Scott Road, north of Covington Road – when he fell into a pond around noon.

He was mowing grass near a retention pond when the mower slid down the pond embankment.

Houser ended up in the water with the mower pinning him underneath, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

No one knows how long he was underwater, DNR officials said.

Houser’s co-workers found him, got him out of the water and called emergency dispatchers as they administered CPR.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department arrived and took over attempts to revive Houser.

He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, according to DNR officials.
