12-year-old girl 'critical' after crash

A 12-year-old girl was badly injured when the vehicle she was riding in was rear-ended by another vehicle driven by a man who fell asleep in DeKalb County Saturday, police said.

Bradley James Lowery, 22, of Huntertown, told police he fell asleep at the wheel and did not know what happened.

Police said Lowery was southbound on Indiana 3 approaching Indiana 205 just before noon. His vehicle rear-ended another vehicle stopped at the light, pushing that vehicle into a ditch, police said.

Hannah-Rose Kennedy, 12, a passenger in the vehicle that was struck, suffered skull and leg fractures and a neck injury. She was in critical condition Saturday at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

The driver of that vehicle, Nola D. Katinsky, 48, had bruising, neck and back pain.

Police cited Lowery for speeding too fast to avoid a collision. He was taken to Parkview with abdominal pain, police said.
