Notre Dame's Nix goes to Houston

Former Notre Dame nose tackle Louis Nix III was chosen by the Houston Texans with the No. 83 pick in the NFL draft Friday night.

Nix was the fourth former Irish player selected in the draft. Zack Martin went to the Dallas Cowboys with the No. 16 pick Thursday, Stephon Tuitt went to the Pittsburgh Steelers with the No. 46 pick and tight end Troy Niklas was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals with the No. 52 pick.

The 6-foot-2, 331-pounder had 122 tackles with 14 for a loss and 2 ½ sacks in 34 games with the Irish.

“Nix is a pure nose tackle in a 3-4 defense,” Monday Night Football analyst Jon Gruden said. “The problem with Nix, if there is one, these teams that come out there with three and four wide receivers, they get you in a sub-defense.”
