Lions draft North Carolina TE Ebron No. 10 overall

ALLEN PARK, Mich. — The Detroit Lions have selected North Carolina tight end Eric Ebron with the No. 10 pick in the NFL draft.

Detroit added Ebron on Thursday night even though it has Brandon Pettigrew and Joseph Fauria at his position.

Lions general manager Martin Mayhew insisted the team was prepared to pick a player at any position other than quarterback with the team's first pick, and he proved it by taking someone who may not start this season.

Mayhew was rooting for a lot of signal callers to be selected before Detroit was due to make a pick, but only one was taken off the board.
