Fort Wayne student is Presidential Scholar

– High school seniors from Fort Wayne and Carmel have been selected as Presidential Scholars.

The Education Department announced this week that Abby Lemert of Carroll High School in Fort Wayne and Daniel Fu of Carmel are among this year’s class of 141 Presidential Scholars. Fu attends Park Tudor School in Indianapolis.

The U.S. Department of Education says the scholars are chosen on the basis of academic achievement, artistic excellence, leadership, citizenship, service, and contribution to school and community.

The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars selects winners annually based in part on essays, school evaluations and transcripts. The commission is appointed by President Barack Obama.

The other scholars will be honored in Washington June 22-25.
